I'm 50 years old, a Lieutenant with the California Highway Patrol, a former high-school English teacher, a triathlete, and a warrior battling breast cancer. I live on a ranch with my wife, step-son, and collection of animals: 15 goats, 1 sheep, 2 llamas, 3 mini pot-belly pigs, 1 standard donkey, 2 mini-donkeys, 3 dogs, 3 standard horses, 3 mini horses, 16 chickens, 2 bunnies, and 5 cats.

Do monthly checks!

During my regular chemo, I was on an Avastin trial. Side effects included nosebleeds, headaches, and an increase in blood pressure. After chemo ended, I've started Zometa and will have infusions for three years. Once every month for the first six months, then once every three months for two and a half years. I was really sick for two days following my first three Zometa infusions. Number four was not so bad. Since then, I've noticed a deformation and a loss of strength in my right thumb. Not sure if this is a result of the Zometa, but I believe it to be. Shortly after my first infusion, I began commenting "my thumb feels funny." Over the course of the past six months, it's steadily gotten worse.
